I am like most of you. I live in a small apartment. I don’t have a den, there is no guest room and my bed takes up most of my bedroom. I am happy that I don’t live in a studio apartment anymore. A studio is a glorified bedroom and not much else. It’s astoundingly hard to stay classy when living in a closet.
I think the bed is a centerpiece for a studio. You can use privacy screens to keep it out of site but they only do so much. I prefer to get a bed that looks awesome and display it proudly. That looks better than junky privacy screens. The headboard and bedding really make the bed so I always spend a little extra in those areas. I shop around for the best deals and I usually end up buying online. I found www.hqdillardsbedding.com and liked what I saw in regard to prints. Some really regal and classy stuff that isn’t super expensive. Of course I am willing to pay for a little extra quality but if I was rolling in extra money I wouldn’t be living in such a small space. Futons are an option that is worth considering. Also, consider bunk beds; don’t dismiss them so easily as “kid’s beds”. Replacing my bed with a set of adult bunk beds would create the sleeping space I needed without taking up any more floor space.
Just because I display my bed doesn’t mean that I want to turn the whole room into a bedroom. I like a studio to look like a classy apartment that has a bed (or set of bunk beds…) as a part of the design. I bought a chest with a sliding top that is perfect for keeping extra bedding in and I think I may try and find another. I can keep extra soft goods, like pillows and other bedding in it and it looks classy and inconspicuous. That chest acts as my coffee table and nobody ever notices. If you get an old apothecary style chest you can use it as a dresser too.
If I ever end up in a studio for any reason I would probably forgo a couch all together and just get a couple sets of bunk beds. Why not? They are efficient, offer a surprising amount of space and act as a conversation piece. I just have to make sure to buy adult bunk beds and get something with some classy flare to it.
